Liposuction: Not a Weight Loss Method

Liposuction for body contouring in San FranciscoIf you want to drop a few pounds, head to the gym before scheduling your consultation. Many people mistakenly believe that liposuction is a weight loss treatment. In reality, it is a treatment designed to sculpt, shape, and remove stubborn fat pockets. We can help you to perfect your body with liposuction. Although the results are impressive, it isn’t a substitute for diet and exercise.

Kiss those Stubborn Fat Pockets Goodbye

Are you a candidate for liposuction? This procedure is often a good choice for those looking to remove unwanted fat deposits and refine body contours. Liposuction can be performed on many different areas in the body including the buttocks, hips, thighs, abdomen, legs and arms, and even the neck. We also perform liposuction on some male patients to treat gynecomastia (male breasts). If you’re curious about whether liposuction would help you achieve your goals, give us a call and schedule a consultation.

Liposuction is a powerful tool for removing stubborn fat. Some areas of the body don’t respond well to exercise, leaving you with fat pockets that won’t go away, no matter what you do. Liposuction targets these areas, removing the fat cells permanently and reshaping the area. If you’re tired of fighting that belly fat or if you want to kiss those love handles goodbye, liposuction might be the treatment you’re after.

How is Liposuction Performed?

In our offices we use tumescent liposuction, a minimally invasive technique, to gently suction away unwanted fat. This type of liposuction has been used since the 1980s and uses smaller incisions than some other types of treatment. General anesthesia is not needed; tumescent liposuction is performed using local anesthetic and sometimes mild sedation. The unique technique is very accurate. Swelling, bruising, and inflammation are often less than with other types of liposuction, leading to quicker recovery times.

Tumescent liposuction uses a small metal tube called a cannula to gently remove fat. The cannula is inserted into various small incisions in the area receiving treatment. These incisions are very small and rarely require stitches, reducing the scarring you’ll experience, if any. A high pressure vacuum suctions out the unwanted fat. After the procedure you may need to wear compression garments for a few days and most people are able to return to work in 2-7 days.
