Fraxel

Fraxel is a laser skin rejuvenation treatment that uses patented “fractional” technology to penetrate the superficial layers of your skin with a microscopic laser. The laser light then targets and treats damaged skin. A Fraxel laser treatment can:

  • Smooth your skin, making it softer
  • Even out skin tone, reducing the appearance of sun spots, age spots, and melasma
  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Stimulate collagen production for a younger look
  • Treat the face, neck, chest, and hands
  • Reduce the appearance of enlarged pores
  • Improve the appearance of scars, including acne scars and surgical scars

Advantages of the Fraxel Laser

The Fraxel laser is so named because it treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, leaving the surrounding tissue untouched. This promotes rapid healing and stimulates your body’s own natural healing process, replacing the old and damaged cells with fresh, glowing, healthy skin. As the laser removes the top layers of skin, it is able to alleviate many problems, such as lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone, scars, and uneven skin texture.

The results are both immediate and progressive. Soon after the treatment, the surface of your skin will feel softer and smoother, look brighter, and show a more even tone. The next 3 to 6 months will bring more improvement as your skin continues to create new collagen. Results are long-lasting but will depend on your lifestyle, age, skin care regimen, and the condition of your skin.

Multiple treatments are usually required to reach your final desired outcome. The specific number of treatments is tailored to your goals and desired results, as well as your lifestyle. We will work with you to identify the appropriate level of treatment so that you can avoid more downtime than your schedule allows.

Recovery from Fraxel Laser Treatment

The procedure can be performed at different levels based on your needs, so depending on the level of your treatment, you may experience some redness or swelling. This will diminish as quickly as the next day or over the next several days.

Your skin will naturally bronze over the next week or two. As you continue your Fraxel laser treatments, the sunburned-to-bronzed appearance will repeat each time. Just like sunburn, your skin will flake and exfoliate normally, revealing fresher, glowing, and smoother skin underneath.

Dr. Matarasso may recommend a different or additional treatment in order to achieve the results you want. These include Microdermabrasion and IPL.

San Francisco Fraxel® FAQs

Who is a good candidate for Fraxel® laser skin treatment in San Francisco?

Our typical Fraxel® patient is self-conscious about the effects of time and sun damage on their skin — including lines and wrinkles, uneven tone or texture, melasma, scarring, age spots, etc. Fraxel® laser treatment is especially appealing for people who want to enjoy dramatic anti-aging results without the risk or downtime associated with more invasive procedures. If you have a darker skin tone or specific health conditions, you might not be a good candidate for Fraxel®. Come to your consultation prepared for our dermatologists to thoroughly evaluate your skin and ask you specific questions about your medical history.

Will I need more than one Fraxel® treatment?

Depending on what you’re hoping to achieve, we may recommend scheduling a follow-up Fraxel® procedure about six months after your first. We can work with you to create a tailored Fraxel® plan to meet your needs.

Do any procedures pair well with Fraxel®?

You may also want to explore our injectables and dermal fillers for ongoing anti-aging solutions.

When do the results appear, and how long do they last?

Fraxel® results are immediate and progressive. Soon after your treatment, your skin will feel softer, look brighter, and show more even tone. The next three to six months will bring additional improvement as your skin continues healing and regenerating collagen. You can prolong the results of your Fraxel® laser in San Francisco by staying out of the sun, not smoking, and using our high-quality, medical-grade skin care products.

Is it safe to use Fraxel® in other areas?

Yes! We know premature aging and sun damage don’t only affect your face. That’s why we’re excited to offer this safe, effective treatment for the skin on your hands, arms, chest, neck, and back.

How much does Fraxel® cost in San Francisco?

Fraxel® costs vary depending on factors such as how many areas you’re having treated, whether you’ll need follow-up Fraxel® treatments, and if you choose to pair your Fraxel® with other procedures. We can provide a more accurate cost estimate during your consultation.
