Filler or Freezer- What Injectable Treatment Do I Need?

Injectables are a variety of age defying treatments that are injected directly into the skin. Fillers

O-B_shutterstock_131469791As the body ages it loses some of its natural volume. This can be a result of many natural processes from fewer fat deposits in the face to degrading collagen in the skin. The result is wrinkling, undesired folds, sunken cheeks and tired looking skin. Fillers seek to restore that youthful volume by plumping up the areas that time has depleted. By restoring volume you can achieve youthful beauty once again.

Filler is the term assigned to a broad category of injectables that insert material into the body to restore volume. They “fill-in” wrinkles, folds and areas of reduced volume.

Dr. Matarasso uses a variety of different fillers to meet the unique needs of each patient. Let’s take a quick look at just a couple of these injectable fillers:

  • Perlane– Created from hyaluronic acid Perlane works with the collagen in your body to create smooth and supple skin. This treatment has a unique ability to bind with water helping it to last up to 60% longer than collagen treatments.
  • Juvederm– This injectable gel is a great choice for treating crow’s feet, fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin and thinning lips. It is made from hyaluronic acid and works with the natural collagen in your body to create volume and support. Juvederm is highly biocompatible and the results can last as long as 9 months with a single treatment, even longer with a simple follow up treatment.

Freezers

Although the word freeze implies cold, freezers aren’t chilly at all. They actually work with the muscle to halt contractions and diminish the look of wrinkles. You’ve probably heard of one of the most popular freezers Botox®.

Check out a few of the injectable freezers offered by Dr. Matarasso:

  • Botox– This injectable freezer has been a popular choice for years, largely in part to its effectiveness. We often use it to treat crow’s feet, frown lines, forehead lines, lines around the mouth and wrinkles between the eyes. It gently relaxes the muscles. You may have heard that Botox removes expression, but this is not true; it will not make your face look numb or frozen.
  • Dysport– Made using similar components to Botox, Dysport is another injectable freezer offered by Dr. Matarasso. Some patients report seeing the results sooner (generally one to two days) and longer lasting results than with traditional Botox, however these two injectable freezers are quite similar. We’ll help you choose the right one for the look you want to achieve.
