When it comes to injectable cosmetic treatments you have a few options available. botulinum toxin treatments (like Botox and Dysport) and dermal fillers (like Restylane and Juvederm). Which treatment is right for you? Learn more about each option below… and then try one (or both) for yourself.
Botulinum Toxin Treatments- What Are They?
Botox and Dysport are wrinkles treatments that use a purified form of the botulinum toxin to relax muscles that cause wrinkles. These treatments are very effective, but they only work on specific wrinkles (those caused by muscle activity). Frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet are common examples of wrinkles caused by muscle movement. Botox and Dysport relax these muscles allowing the wrinkles to fade and the lines to soften.
Treatment takes just a few minutes and you can return to your regular activities immediately. You won’t see results right away, but they should start to appear in just a couple of days (some patients feel that Dysport starts working a day or two sooner). Results last 3-8 months. Dr. Matarasso will help you determine if Botox or Dysport is a better fit for your situation, although the two treatments are very similar.
Dermal Fillers- What Are My Options?
Dermal fillers are another option for treating age related changes in the face. While Botox works by relaxing muscles, dermal fillers work by restoring volume. They can fill in wrinkles, plump up the lips, etc. We offer several different dermal fillers including Juvederm, Juvederm Voluma, Restylane, and Restylane Lyft. Each filler has its benefits and is ideal for treating different types of wrinkles. Since dermal fillers can be used on any type of wrinkle, they are an ideal option for rejuvenating the entire face. They can also be used on the hands, neck, etc. in some circumstances.
Dermal fillers are long lasting. Most fillers last 6 months to a year per treatment, but Voluma has shown results for up to 2 years in some patients. Treatment takes just a couple of minutes. Results are instant and lasting.
Dermal Fillers or Botox… Which Is Right for Me?
If you want to rejuvenate your face and look younger without surgery, try injectable cosmetic treatments. If you can’t choose between Botox and dermal fillers, don’t worry. Dr. Matarasso can provide customized recommendations after a careful examination of your face. Many patients opt for both dermal fillers and Botox for a non-surgical rejuvenation similar to a facelift, but without the surgery.
