Dysport

Dysport® in San Francisco

Dysport® is an FDA-approved injectable used to significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the brow and forehead. Made from a purified version of the protein found in botulinum toxin, the injectable blocks nerve impulses, weakening muscles to relax wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look. It temporarily paralyzes the muscles, allowing the surface skin to smooth over for a more youthful and attractive appearance.

Like BOTOX®, Dysport® contains botulinum toxin type A, but in a slightly different formulation. After a week, you should see visible changes from the neuromodulator, with results lasting three to four months.

At Dermatology Medical Group of San Francisco, our board-certified dermatologists and dedicated team offer Dysport®, BOTOX®, and Kybella injectables for wrinkle relaxation and resolving a double chin.

Who Should Get Dysport®?

Men and women who wish to soften their forehead wrinkles and the lines around their eyes should consider Dysport® to achieve a youthful complexion. Our highly skilled injectors will consult with you to determine if the injectable treatment is well-suited to address your cosmetic concerns.

Dysport injections work in a similar way to BOTOX, offering an alternative way to quickly reduce wrinkles on the face. Like BOTOX injections, Dysport is a purified protein made up of botulism toxin that relaxes the muscles responsible for the formation of lines and wrinkles.

Dysport is effective in reducing the appearance of the following:

  • Forehead lines
  • Fine lines around the mouth
  • Lines and wrinkles between the eyes
  • Glabella – the space between the eyebrows above the nose
  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Worry lines
  • Lines on the neck

Dysport or BOTOX?

Some patients report that Dysport’s effects begin to show more quickly than the results of BOTOX. The difference is only a matter of a day or two, but this may be important for some patients. In some people, Dysport’s results have also been found to last longer than BOTOX.

While Dysport was not approved by the FDA until 2009, physicians in other countries have used it successfully for more than ten years. Xeomin is another alternative to both BOTOX and Dysport.

Regardless of subtle differences, these treatments are very similar. Dr. Matarasso will recommend the best injection for you in order to achieve the look you want. Read about BOTOX and Xeomin.

Some lines, wrinkles, or folds may be better treated with dermal fillers or injectables, such as Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane or LaViv. Some lines and wrinkles also respond to procedures such as IPL, Fraxel, and microdermabrasion. Dr. Matarasso will advise you if one of these procedures is a better option for you based on the results you wish to achieve.

Your Dysport Procedure

Dr. Matarasso will give you a mild local anesthetic to numb the areas where you will receive Dysport injections. You may go home or to work immediately after your procedure, and you can also wear makeup.

The results of your injections will last about three to eight months, and you should not have a Dysport treatment more frequently than every 90 days.

While you should see the effects of Dysport within a day or two, you may continue to see improvements for up to two weeks after your treatment.

Dysport is a virtually painless procedure, and no recovery time is necessary. Some people experience a small amount of tenderness and light bruises for a period of days.

Dysport injections are safe for people in good health who are not pregnant, nursing, do not have a neuromuscular disorder, and are under the age of 65.

Dysport is a non-surgical, non-invasive, anti-aging procedure that can be completed in a matter of minutes to a half hour.

Our Dysport® Injection Technique

To achieve optimal results with Dysport®, your injector must administer the treatment with precision, expertise, and care. Each of our board-certified dermatologists has advanced training and extensive experience in customizing your experience. Before administering the injections, they will apply a topical analgesic cream. Then, they will use a tiny needle to inject Dysport® into the targeted muscles on your forehead, between your brows, and around your eyes. Most patients find the treatment highly tolerable.

What Happens After Dysport®

You may experience some swelling and redness around the injection sites. This typical effect will typically dissipate within an hour of the treatment. After the injections, you may immediately return to work and your daily activities. Patients usually see a noticeable improvement with softened lines and wrinkles within a week of the treatment, with benefits lasting three to four months.

Dysport® FAQs

How much does Dysport® cost?

Your total price tag will depend on how many units of Dysport® are necessary to provide your ideal results. During your initial consultation, we will create a customized treatment plan and estimate your cost. Ask about current specials on Dysport® at DMGSF and the payment methods we accept.

What’s the difference between BOTOX® and Dysport®?

BOTOX® and Dysport® are chemically similar injectable treatments used to correct dynamic wrinkles. After a Dysport® treatment, patients typically see results a little bit sooner. Also, Dysport® has longer-lasting benefits compared to other wrinkle relaxers and is better for more extensive treatment areas. We will help you choose between BOTOX® and Dysport® during your consultation depending on your specific needs and goals.

Should I get Dysport® or a dermal filler?

A neuromodulator like Dysport® corrects dynamic wrinkles from repetitive facial expressions like smiling, laughing, and squinting. Dysport® relaxes facial muscles to reduce etched lines.

In contrast, dermal fillers provide underlying volume to address wrinkles and lines resulting. During your initial consultation, we will ask about your concerns and goals to help determine if a wrinkle relaxer like Dysport®, a dermal filler, or a combination of the two will deliver your best results.

Can I combine Dysport® with other treatments?

At Dermatology Medical Group of San Francisco, we offer several complementary cosmetic treatments to boost your Dysport® benefits. Based on your concerns and goals, your individualized plan may include Dysport® injections, an injectable filler for static wrinkles in your lips and cheeks, and a skin treatment like microdermabrasion or a chemical peel.

How often should I get Dysport® treatments?

The effects of Dysport® may last for as long as four months. During your consultation, we will recommend a follow-up treatment regimen to maintain your results.
